Lexington KY is an amazing place for engagement sessions. Whether you want a formal or casual engagement, or something in between. Here are a few of my favorites.
DOWNTOWN LEXINGTON ENGAGEMENT SESSION
If you’re into exploring the city, then walking the streets of Lexington is an amazing engagement idea. You’ll find some amazing spots. Concrete steps, red church doors, crosswalks, and parks. This isn’t about the specific parks necessarily, but more about the downtown scene, showing off the city lights and skyline if you can get to a rooftop. Downtown Lex has a lot to offer. My favorite is after sunset, and the lights come on offering some amazing scenes at night. If you go this route, bring some comfy shoes for walking!
JACOBSON PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Probably one of my top five favorite outdoor locations, Jacobson Park has so much to offer. Pine trees, open fields, a large pond, and more. With 216 acres, there are so many possibilities for photos. That being said, expect a lot of walking. Bring a comfortable pair of shoes to change into during the walks, and you can change into your nicer shoes at the locations.
TRIANGLE PARK ENGAGEMENT SESSION
Triangle park is in the heart of downtown Lexington. With an amazing fountain for a backdrop, it can be incredibly romantic. Especially after a rain! Rupp Arena is right next door, and so are the Victorian Square shops which both offer some great locations as well. This is a great spot if you don’t want to do a ton of walking, or are limited on time and want a good variety of photos, or need a quick indoor backup in case of rain.

DISTILLERY DISTRICT ENGAGEMENT SESSION
The distillery district in Lexington is a really fun place for photos. Easy to walk around and you can explore cool shops and restaurants, find amazing walls for backdrops, and just have fun. This is a great spot for a fun and casual engagement. It’s incredibly versatile and I can’t wait to photograph this place again.
RED RIVER GORGE ENGAGEMENT SESSION
This is a little east of Lexington, but if you want a place with a view, go to Red River Gorge. You can hike, but be prepared for a trek unless you want to take the chair lift! The lift costs 15 for a round trip, and honestly it’s worth it. Otherwise you’ll spend the majority of your time getting up top. Absolutely gorgeous during the fall!
UK ARBORETUM ENGAGEMENT SESSION
The UK Arboretum is a State Botanical Garden of Kentucky with 100 acres of public gardens located on the campus of the University of Kentucky in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky. There are so many opportunities here for incredible engagement photos. I recommend scouting your favorite locations or trusting your photographer to choose the best spots if they’ve photographed there before.
